While it might look a bit contrived, both the leaf and the stone were already right there on the beach. I admit, the positioning had a little bit of help... OK, OK, I moved the leaf. :-)

I adjusted the hue and softened the background to create some separation. The underlit beach helped me achieve the cold, wintry, and autumnal feel I was aiming for.
