Thanks for your answer, Ken! I did a lot of image searching and couldn't find anything like it. It mesmerized me in the bookstore.

Two off-the-wall guesses. Part of a telegraph repeater or maybe very early Marconi era wireless gear. Not matter it's a great bit of vintage something for the Steam Punk enthusiast.
