They get pretty tall. 12'+ on the older ones. Apparently they grow very slowly. It takes decades to grow a few feet.
The white on top is a combination of back lighting on the needles.

I absolutely love this. Guessing that the tops of each stem look especially white from the density of needles, but it looks like illuminated highlights. How big are these things in real life?
